The mind of the Spirit is life and peace. If you want to keep your first love for Him — that love you felt when you first gave your heart to Him — you have to be especially on guard against thoughts that revolve around yourself. Entertaining such thoughts has to be the first step away from a sincere love for God, which is completely free from seeking honor, etc.

Falling in love with your life

Do you love Him more than these things? Then you will lay down your life for Him!

The Spirit shows you your sin and egocentric inclinations. These things must be put to death Is to overcome the temptations to sin that arise when our lusts and desires draw us to react in ways we know to be evil i. It is the act of denying those thoughts and refusing This is a laborious work which requires that you acknowledge the truth about yourself and love it with all of your heart.

This humility and honesty is what will lead you to overcome sin and be conformed to the image of Christ. Romans Everything will become very difficult if you have any other aim in life besides partaking of the virtues of Christ. For example, if you want to preserve your own honor, it is impossible to be patient, longsuffering, etc. To try to preserve honor will hold you back, with the result that these virtues will not be manifested. John writes to the angel of the church in Ephesus about what Jesus had against him: You have left your first love.

Revelation The angel was still active, but he gradually stopped humbling himself. Jesus is interested in His life becoming visible through your works. The number of works that you do is not what is important. If you come out of love your works will gradually begin to taste stale and will not be acceptable as your poverty of spirit disappears. Your works are to be increasingly characterized by wisdom and all of the virtues of Christ.

Speak to me of the glory of your heart, for That is greater than the shrieking elements Beyond our door.

Bind the door and seal the transoms, for the Angry countenance of the heaven depresses my Spirit, and the face of our snow-laden fields Makes my soul cry. Feed the lamp with oil and let it not dim, and Place it by you, so I can read with tears what Your life with me has written upon your face. Bring Autumn's wine.

Let us drink and sing the Song of remembrance to Spring's carefree sowing, And Summer's watchful tending, and Autumn's Reward in harvest. Come close to me, oh beloved of my soul; the Fire is cooling and fleeing under the ashes.

Embrace me, for I fear loneliness; the lamp is Dim, and the wine which we pressed is closing Our eyes. Let us look upon each other before They are shut. Find me with your arms and embrace me; let Slumber then embrace our souls as one. Kiss me, my beloved, for Winter has stolen All but our moving lips. I felt very empowered and confident in my ability to use the research tools that were given to me.

The Life of Love < A Tear and a Smile < Khalil Gibran <4umi word

A few years later, one of my best friends was killed while serving in the Army in Afghanistan. The loss of my dear friend Brett was tragic and very painful. As I processed through this tough time, I was reminded of how much of a blessing he was to be around and how he lived his life for Christ. There was story after story about how people just felt loved by Brett and that he was always joyful. Two years later, I still remember Brett as an amazing example of a man who lived a life of love.

His legacy convicts me to be more loving, more giving, and more focused on others rather than myself. You may be familiar with the following verses, which are about as basic as we can get in understanding true Christianity:.

Lay down your life for Jesus

The man who came to Jesus asked him only for the first and greatest commandment. Why then did Jesus add the second in his answer? Because the two are inseparable, in that the only way to know the degree to which someone loves God is by how he treats people.

Along this line, I recently saw a couple of verses in 1 John that pierced my very soul. They lay out a little more clearly how the greatest commandment and the second work together. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. This may come as a harsh reality to you, as it did to me.
