This book was not very helpful to me. It was repetitive and oversimplified issues in education policy. I felt like it wasn't grounded in real-world practice but existed more in the realm of theory.

Format: Paperback. Anyone interested in policy implementation should read this book. This book should be the main text in every education policy class and required reading in some government agencies. The introductory chapter provides a concise and compelling review of what we know about how policies get implemented and why sometimes they don't.
The following chapters demonstrate the lessons highlighted in the first by delving deeply into one or two theoretical lenses for understanding policy implementation, while discussing a contemporary policy case. This structures helps the reader make sense of different theoretical lenses with the context of practice. This book is ridiculously expensive and is edited by someone who lacks experience working in schools.
But in a broad sense, it is not hard to see that all these changes are pointing in one direction: increasing educational opportunities for all students. If this result seems far away, consider how the following trends are making this idea closer to reality everyday.

On the curricula side, the Common Core State Standards are calling for deeper understanding of key concepts and pushing schools to make sure students can apply these concepts to real-life work. Accomplishing this ensures that each student is either college- or career-ready by the end of 12th grade. About this product Product Information A poorly designed system produces poor results.

Reality and Education: A New Direction for Educational Policy by Daniel Wentland
In Reality and Education, Dr. Wentland offers a no-frills, common sense solution to improving education leadership, school culture and student achievement. This is definitely an approach that will make educators stand up and take notice! This volume is a useful guide for those seeking to understand our educational challenges. Wentland argues that the purpose of pre-collegiate education is simply learning, not solving an array of societal problems. Learning is elicited by effective teachers who provide clear explanations of what children should learn, what is considered an acceptable quality or level of performance, opportunities for practice and regular feedback, and an explicit understanding of the conditions under which this learning should take place.
Teachers are also responsible for conveying to students that successful learning results from effort, time, and persistence.
