It's fiction people relax. The author never claimed to be a Navy expert. I was repulsed and fascinated. God is an evil, soul consuming alien and the devil is a beautiful woman in a red dress, aiding and abetting. Go figure. Still, it borders on blasphemy, in my option, and shouldn't be read by those easily offended over a different view to our religious doctrines. I really liked the premise of the book.
The God Killers
So it read a little far-fetched at times like the part about the aircraft carrier heist, but overall, I really liked the idea of killing god. I think if you look at it philosophically that we tend to do this when things go wrong. I don't review books on grammatical errors as tiny as a typo so those things are minimals and petty complaints about it are a waste of time, but the story is good. If you can follow it without bringing in silly complaints, then you'll enjoy the book. I really had trouble putting this book down.
Simpson is quite a polished writer and I found the storyline intriguing and unique. I really had fun reading it, as I have with all of his novels. If you are looking for a unique but not weird and entertaining Sci Fi read, then I highly recommend this. I would also suggest checking out the Post-Human series if you already haven't! Wanting more David Simpson work, I was not disappointed.
The Post Human Trilogy was a very different type of science fiction, and "The God Killers" again are another different type of science fiction. The title says it all, or does it? It is pretty hard to describe what actually happens without giving away any of the twist and turns this novel takes. So I won't. I just can highly recommend this as well as "Post-Human Trilogy".
David Simpson has the skills that can put him up with Heinlein and Clarke in the future. Here's looking forward to a long and full career. One person found this helpful. Well this was certainly a different take on who God really is. I thought it was kind of interesting actually. I won't give away any spoilers, but I will give a synopsis of what the story is about. God is actually an "alien" from a different dimension and he eats the souls of the dead to live.
Cipher, Han and Father Hurly know this is the case because they've all died and came back to life so they have seen the real "God" and know what he really is. With the help of "Satan" they try to kill this fake "God" so the souls of the dead can be free. It's a quick read. If you have also read them already, this book represents quite a big change of subject. This book is a kind of thriller that involves ghosts and the afterlife. I have to confess that I was quite surprised by the change of style from the author compared to the nanotech-worlds of his other books.
Nice to discover such a versatile author. Most of the book uses the appearance of ghosts as a means to cause stress in the reader, because they are extremely bad and are continuously chasing after the main characters. However, at the end, the situation easies a bit. The action development is fine; I'm not a big fan of thrillers, but I didn't get bored at all. The ending is kind of "happy idea" that the author gets out of his sleeve However, this is a kind of fantasy book, so if we can think of a god that eats human souls, everything could be possible.
But the outcome of the story is really astonishing. It finishes in such a way that a new literally world of opportunities and relationships between the dead and the alive is open. He should perhaps consider writting a follow-up story using the world he has created as scenario. It would be really interesting. As a final subjective note, I think the author is using just the right length for his books: not too short, but he is neither trying to stretch the ideas up to an insane number of pages just to increase the price. Just like this, about pages more or less , I find is the optimal to exploit a nice idea.
All in all, I think the book is worth its price. I enjoyed reading it for a few hours and then, I spent a while thinking about the possibilities in a world like he created.

Imagine an alternate reality that appears, on the surface, just like our own.
However, in this reality, the white light famously reported at the end of our lives is not an escape or deliverance -- it is a trap. A creature calling itself God in a parallel dimension consumes the souls of humans, devouring their energy to sustain itself.

Now they must attempt the only course of action available to them: they must kill God. With the help of satanic messages decoded from the nonsensical ramblings of the possessed, the group must evade ghosts and demons on their mission to not only save their lives, but, more importantly, their afterlives as well. The invention of the ebook, just like the University of Toronto's Academic Bridging program, gave me the opportunity I needed to prove myself. Because of them, a runaway who had to sleep in a shopping cart at sixteen, a high-school dropout with seemingly no prospects, went on to live in the best city in the world, meet the best woman in the world and marry her, attain two degrees from one of the top forty universities in the world, before achieving his dream of being a full-time author and having one of the best-selling science fiction series in the world.
